Hecla voluntarily engages with a variety of organizations and frameworks at a global and national level to ensure that we are disclosing performance data and adhering to the highest standards of ESG policies and performance.
Hecla prepared the 2023 report with reference to the Global Reporting Initiative (GRI) 2021 Standards and maps to the Sustainability Accounting Standards Board (SASB) 2023 Metals and Mining Standard. We also disclosed using the Task Force on Climate-Related Financial Disclosures (TCFD) and, at our Canadian operations, applicable areas of the Towards Sustainable Mining (TSM) protocols.
Our metrics can be found in our 2023 Data Tables and GRI, SASB, and TCFD Content Index.
This report outlines our environmental, social, and governance (ESG) performance and targets.
We report using the TCFD by incorporating climate-related risks and opportunities into our risk management and strategic planning processes.
Hecla was the first U.S. hard rock mining company to achieve certification in 2016 under the National Mining Association’s CORESafety system, a voluntary, scalable, mining-specific safety and health management system. Casa Berardi was the first international mine to achieve certification in 2018.
Our Canadian operations disclose applicable areas of the TSM protocols.
Hecla recognizes that each United Nations Sustainable Development Goal (UN SDG) is important, and we indirectly contribute in some way to the majority of them. We have prioritized the SDGs that align most directly with our business, corporate strategy, sustainability efforts, and stakeholder expectations, while also representing our greatest opportunities to contribute further to the goals.
